In 2023, team building trends are evolving to meet the changing needs of companies and their teams. In fact, the word “changing” is making an impact in every field. In the current context, no matter what the industry, we can no longer blame labor shortages for a rising attrition rate. It’s time to take a deep-dive into our internal values and see how we apply them to the daily lives of our employees.
A great way to make the employee experience more profitable, and to let those great values shine through? TeamBuilding. What a surprise!
Team Building has its effects on your teams, that’s for sure, but it’s a question of knowing HOW to execute a team building initiative properly.
Don’t worry, you don’t need a Degree in HR to come up with cool ideas that make your people want to participate. That’s what we’re here for.
For our part, thanks to our management background, we work intrinsically with managers, team leaders etc. to put into action initiatives that are directly linked to the strategic employee experience plan. However, we realize that not everyone has the resources to find the perfect initiative for their needs.
So, we got you, here are some of the most striking trends for autumn 2023:
Virtual and Hybrid Experiences: With the rise of remote working, virtual and hybrid team building activities continue to grow in popularity. Our suggestion: put the focus on audio-visual, as there’s no better way to lose people at a distance than to have sound that “chirps” (we’ve decided it’s a word) and live video that “buffers” endlessly.
Wellness-oriented activities: Companies are increasingly recognizing the importance of employee well-being. Activities focusing on mental health, yoga, meditation and other wellness practices are being integrated into team building programs, often creating opportunities to connect on a more interpersonal level. Our suggestion: Consider wellness beyond the yoga class. A wellness-focused activity is the perfect time to remind colleagues where and what resources are available internally to support their well-being. For example, perhaps your group insurance plan offers a psychological therapist referral service?
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): Teams look for activities that have a positive impact on the community or the environment. Volunteer projects and CSR activities are among the preferred choices for strengthening team spirit. Our suggestion: Turn your corporate RES efforts into an internal team effort! Take the opportunity to sound out the causes and initiatives that are important to your people. You’ll find that your participation rate will increase, as will your sense of belonging.
Creative and artistic activities: Activities that encourage creativity and individual expression are gaining in popularity. These can include art workshops, cooking classes, painting sessions or collaborative creative projects. Be creative ;).
Escape Games: Escape games continue to be a popular option for teams. They encourage problem-solving, communication and collaboration, and get people moving! Our suggestion: Before the activity, take the opportunity to review typical leadership profiles. Ask the question before and after the activity: What type of leader are you?
Soft Skills Development: Team building activities are increasingly designed to develop interpersonal skills such as communication, conflict resolution, leadership and time management.
Outdoor and Adventure Activities: Outdoor activities, such as hikes, obstacle courses and team challenges, are popular for building confidence and encouraging calculated risk-taking.
Technology and Simulation Games: The use of technology, such as virtual reality games, business simulations and online strategy games, offers immersive and engaging experiences.
Training-Action Programs: These programs combine training with hands-on activities that enable team members to immediately apply what they have learned in a real-life context.
Activity customization: Companies seek to tailor activities to their team’s specific needs, corporate culture and objectives.
It’s important to note that team building trends can vary according to industry, company size and geographical location. It’s always advisable to choose activities that match your team’s needs and preferences.
To do this, we recommend you carry out a pulse survey with your people. To put it all into action, well… here we are!
